The Certified Control Systems Technician program provides technicians with a nationally recognized credential and is something we would like to implement here in WNY. Your corporate as well as personal involvement will help make the program a success for everyone. Please consider:

This unique credential has three levels which cross state and national boundaries in their acceptance. It is an assurance to prospective employers of an individual's experience in the process and controls industries while recognizing that a college degree isn't the only criteria that defines a competent technician. In fact, some highly capable technicians have no degree at all, but instead have many years worth of direct "hands on" involvement in the business.

Certification is based on documented years of experience (college and/or work) coupled with an exam which has been designed by the ISA national headquarters, in conjunction with Columbia Assessment Services, to test an individual's practical knowledge of common industrial control and process techniques, components and jargon.

The class we are sponsoring is a refresher course for all three levels, intended to "fill in the gaps" and help prepare technicians to take the exam for a given level, which will be administered at a later date. We will provide some practical lab exercises using actual process equipment, a CCST study guide from the ISA for each student and help in applying for and taking the exam.

Each level of certification requires documented proof of work experience and college career as follows:

Level 1 CCST: A five-year total of education, training or full time experience.
Level 2 CCST: A seven-year total, at least two of which must be work experience in controls and instrumentation.
Level 3 CCST: A thirteen-year total, at least five of which must be experience in controls and instrumentation.
Renewal: Renewal is required every three years by documenting 120 "Professional Development" points which are accrued by experience, training or taking the renewal exam.

To run the course, we will require a minimum of five students and to schedule an exam, we will need a minimum of five applicants. Depending greatly on the response we see with this first class, we will schedule other classes and tests as necessary. Exam dates for each of the three levels will be announced and are based on the number of applicants at a given time. The CCST Program Information Guide provides more details related to the exam and is available from the ISA National headquarters
